The Alpinist Academy, Pune is a mountaineering institute founded in 2018 aiming to develop a spirit of adventure, respect for nature, and environmental awareness among youth. It is a member of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation and the Youth Hostel of India, and is registered under the Bombay Public Trusts Act. The institute is led by professional mountaineers—including founder Bhagwan Chawale, noted for summiting Everest, Kanchenjunga, Annapurna, Lhotse among others—and technical leaders like Akshay Shelar, who has guided hundreds of treks and rock climbs in the Sahyadris. The Alpinist offers a range of adventure and mountaineering-oriented programs: weekend Sahyadri treks, high altitude Himalayan expeditions, technical rock climbing, rappelling, and residential rock climbing & mountaineering courses. They also conduct children’s adventure & leadership camps, emphasizing skill building, safety, resilience and outdoor fitness. By providing certified training, hands-on exposure, and a professional environment, The Alpinist provides pathways for young adventurers to grow in physically and mentally challenging terrains.
